My Heart is Mine Alone is a powerful play about Werther, a gay woman, and Lotte, a history student and closeted lesbian, who Werther meets at a party and quickly falls in love with. However, things don’t go smoothly for Werther as she finds out that Lotte is engaged to be married to a man in a bid to fulfil society and her family’s expectations of her. The play follows Werther’s heart-wrenching downfall, and Lotte’s emotional struggle to come to terms with her own sexuality, expressing both the highlights and low points of the couple and their love story. We will tell their story with a colourful combination of original text and spoken word poetry. This digital play conveys important social
themes including mental health issues and the challenges that LGBTQ+ people face today within themselves and in society. This play is written, directed and performed by members of the LGBTQ community.
